Imperata cylindrica L. Raeusch is one of the plants that are used for traditional medicine. The purpose of the study of pharmacognosy and phytochemical screening is to assist in the identification and standardization to assure the quality of plant material. Test results showed microscopic pollen reeds are fragment kersik, fiber, beam transporter, parenchyma, fiber lignin. Test fluorescence powder and ethanol extract fluoresces reeds with the addition of HCl, H2SO4 and HNO3. Phytochemical screening Imperata cylindrica contain flavonoids, tannins and triterpenoids. Imperata cylindrica physicochemical parameters obtained water soluble extract content of 16.52% ± 0.216, ethanol soluble extract content of 11.59% ± 0.036, the water content of 10.38% ± 0.308, total ash content of 13.05% ± 0.209 and ash content not soluble in acid 0.21% ± 0.005. Chromatogram pattern of n-hexane extract obtained 8 spots, 4 spots obtained dichloromethane extract and ethanol extract obtained 4 spots.
