Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused byMycobacterium tuberculosis and transmitted through airborne droplets. This study aims to identify TB control issues in Bangetayu Wetan Village, Semarang City, through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and Fishbone diagram mapping.Research methods This is a qualitative study using Focus Group Discussion (FGD) techniques, conducted from June to September 2024, with purposive selection of informants from the Community Health Center program, sub-district government, community leaders, health cadres, and residents. The FGD findings were grouped into six Fishbone categories: people (man), materials/media (material), methods (method), budget (money), environment (environment), and stigma (market). Research result shows that the identified problems include the reluctance of some residents or families to undergo examinations, limited educational media, non-routine outreach and screening activities, limited resources, home/environmental conditions that do not support prevention, and social stigma against TB sufferers. The conclusionThe problem of TB case management in Bangetayu Wetan Village is multifactorial and not solely related to health services. The main issues are low public awareness and compliance with screening, the use of conventional educational media, suboptimal implementation of regular screening, limited funding, inadequate environmental sanitation, and the persistence of social stigma against TB sufferers. The findingsThis study shows that perceived barriers to TB control are related to individual, service, environmental, and social factors. TB control requires an integrated approach through strengthening education, increasing early detection and screening, improving the environment, providing resources, and actively engaging the community and cross-sectors. These findings can serve as an initial basis for developing recommendations for TB case control programs.
