Abstract

Dental plaque is the main cause of dental caries and periodontal disease. If the teeth are not cleaned properly, the bacteria from the food residue will not disappear and will continue to stick to the teeth. Basic Health Research data in 2013 shows that the national prevalence of dental and oral problems is 25.9% and in 2018 it is 45.3%, so there is an increase of 19.4%. This study aims to find out the picture of plaque index in students of SDN 01 Nan Sabaris, Padang Pariaman Regency in 2022. The research method used is descriptive. The population in this study is all students of grades IV, V and VI of SDN 01 Nan Sabaris, Jalan Lubuk Tarok, Pauah Kamba Village, Nan Sabaris District, Padang Pariaman Regency, as many as 86 students. The sampling technique used was "total sampling" with a total sample of 86 students. This research was conducted by direct examination of respondents. The data analysis used was univariate analysis. The results of the study on the description of plaque index in students in grades IV, V and VI of SDN 01 Nan Sabaris Jalan Lubuk Tarok, Pauah Kamba Village, Nan Sabaris District, Padang Pariaman Regency were found to be 28 students (32.55%), good and medium criteria as many as 39 students (45.34%) and bad criteria 19 students (22.09%). The conclusion of this study states that students' knowledge of plaque index is still lacking. Almost every student has a poor plaque index, although there are some students who have good plaque index criteria, but almost all students have a plaque index on the surface of the teeth.
